Our Team

We pride ourselves on culture at Center Ice Brewery and are incredibly excited to share the members of our team with you. Below, you can see the people that made the brewery what it is today.

Steve Albers - Owner

Steve is our fearless leader here at Center Ice Brewery. He is the man whose idea for a hockey-centric brewery came to life after years of hard work and homebrewing. A strong passion for craft beer, hockey, and entrepreneurship motivated Steve to take this leap as he left the world of banking to pursue his dream. Steve and his wife Olivia have two boys named Nash and Franklin.

Kyle Chesnut - Bartender

Kyle is one of our original members , a military veteran, and entrepreneur! He spends his days working on building his brand, Kilo Charlie Clothing Company, an apparel line built around military veterans and creating awareness around veteran suicide prevention. He works our tasting room on the weekends, so make sure you come by and say hi! When he finds some down time, he spends it with his wife, Courtney, and his two children.

Matt Deatherage - Assistant Brewer / Marketing Specialist

Matt has been with the team since day one, starting as a bartender and working into the role of assistant brewer. If he’s not watching the boil, building this website, or modelling for Carhartt, you can find Matt hanging out around St. Louis or pretending to study while the hockey game is on TV.

Stephani Disney - Bartender

Diz is one of our weekend warriors who is an absolute pleasure to be around. She works in optometry during the day, but utilizes her love for all things beer in her weekend role here at Center Ice. She enjoys sampling new beer and hanging out with fellow hockey fans. Her motto is “it’s not work if you love what you do.”

Brody Gromley - Bartender

Brody is one of the newest faces in the tasting room, taking up a bartending role and learning as much as he can about the industry as he finishes his Degree in Business. His love for beer started as sampling a number of different styles from breweries around the country, and has turned into a passion as he’s beginning to experiment with styles of his own on a homebrew scale. Be sure to come in and talk beer with Brody (or ask him about his catahoula/lab mix dog)!

Katie Means - General Manager

Katie is a native St. Louisian, Webster University Alumni and like many others from our great city, an avid beer lover. Katie spent many years working in hospitality management and sales in Chicago, before moving back to her home town, in time to help launch Center Ice Brewery. Her professional goal is to be a vital part of the success of Center Ice, and hopefully one day open her own brewery.

Bill.jpg

Bill McFarland - Head Brewer

Bill is the beer geek of the group, specializing in all things sugar and lupulin. After a brief stint in Atlanta, Bill decided to join our team in efforts to make it back to St. Louis. Since then, he’s purchased his first pair of overalls (out of sheer jealousy of Matt) and expanded our beer portfolio to over 50 recipes.

Danielle Nygaard - Bartender

After 8 years at the front of a classroom, Danielle decided it was time for something new. For the last year, she’s been a professional volunteer. She uses Center Ice as the perfect side hustle. Her love for beer and hockey has made her an awesome fit for the team. She loves all things St. Louis, travelling, and holiday 5 Ks. Make sure to stop by and say hi!

Courtney Reale - Shift Manager

Courtney is one of the newer additions to the team and a die-hard Blues fan. She was born and raised right here in South City and grew up watching the Blues play. When she’s not working or watching hockey, she is working towards her degree in International Business. Keep an eye out in the tasting room for her!

Nick Toothman - Shift Manager

Nick is our newest member of the tasting room, diving head first into the brewery world after a fresh move to St. Louis from Central Illinois. He spent the last two years traveling the country and working in the marketing field, but would spend his down time exploring breweries all over the country. Come talk sports and beer with Nick!
